The most important of the many
revelations resulting from this additional research was the discovery of,
State’s Exhibit 13, a crime scene
photograph in the defense files of the left side of Emogene Thompson's
automobile that was altered by either the police or the prosecution or both
that was kept from display to the jury, in spite of a juror request, at
trial by the prosecution and the presiding judge. When this alteration was discovered only
weeks ago, almost by accident by the researcher, the entire truth of this most
complicated case became immediately and completely, crystal clear. It also
became clear that either the police or the prosecution or both made a clumsy
attempt to hide the blood in this photograph by using a desktop publishing system to blend
out the red bloodstains. When this proved to be too difficult, the brightness
and contrast was altered to produce the photograph found in the defense files.
If the original photograph showing the bloodstains on the exterior of the
victim’s vehicle was introduced into evidence and hidden from the jury, this
photograph and other such contrived evidence and testimony implicates everyone
involved in this case in the conspiracy to convict Michael Chapel for the
murder of Emogene Thompson.
